In another enthralling contest among the best youth talent from across the globe, YONEX hosted the Legacy Match at the All England Open Badminton Championships.
U13 teams from England, Japan and China featured on the hallowed YONEX All England centre court on Finals day.
The event was led by former All England Champion and badminton icon, Peter Gade, who offered invaluable feedback and words of wisdom to the young players.
Representing England were Nikhil Pulikkottil (captain), Arjun Bhattiprolu, Eden Gough, Aayush Reddy, Etienne Fan, Vedanshi Jain (captain), Mutiara Mandala, Mudra Mayekar, Daya Variangattil, and Elsa Mitchell.
The team competed under the guidance of coaches Robert Golding, Harley Towler, and Nikki Tarrant.
England kicked off the event with a closely contested 2-4 loss to Japan, with several matches going down to the wire. The subsequent match against China resulted in an even 3-3 draw.
Robert Golding, National Pathway Coach, said: “The team’s performance has seen significant improvement since this time last year.
“The players displayed better cohesion and team spirit, showcasing their abilities without fear against two of the most formidable Badminton Nations Worldwide.
“This experience is crucial in inspiring the next generation of players and developing their experience on a big court to ready them for upcoming Championship events.”
“Badminton England share special appreciation to the parents and supporters who travelled across the country to rally behind the young England team.
“Hao Chen, Ivy Li, and Angela Toon have also been acknowledged for their efforts in supporting the players behind the scenes on the day, ensuring a fantastic experience for all involved.”
Dominic Bone, Senior Marketing Manager at YONEX UK, added: “YONEX were delighted with the success of the legacy match which took place on Sunday morning prior to the finals at the YONEX All England.
“The match provided an opportunity for the next generation of aspiring badminton players to experience playing in such a prestigious venue against world class opposition.
“We look forward to one day cheering on these players at the YONEX All England Badminton Championships in the future.”
