Statement on delay to play at YONEX All England Open 2022
A leak in the roof of the Utilita Arena in Birmingham has caused a delay to proceedings on Day 1 of the YONEX All England Open 2022.
The men’s doubles match between Indonesia’s Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and France’s Lucas Corvee/Ronan Labar was delayed with water dripping onto the court.
Play was halted at 2-1 in the second game to move the match from Court 4 to Court 3. The match resumed 11min52sec later with the Indonesians going on to win 21-12 21-18.
Court 4 was subsequently refitted safely away from the location of the leak, with play resuming on that court 2h30m later.
BWF, Badminton England and venue management continue to monitor the situation to prevent any further delays to play.
